This one-of-a-kind Crustaceous Dish combines a functional ceramic bowl with a fully hand-built sculptural crab — because apparently a regular dish wasn't interesting enough. Please note: this is a Studio Second. Small cracks are present at several of the leg-to-body attachment points. They are visible on close inspection and are shown clearly in the listing photos. Because these occur at structural attachment points, this piece is being offered at a reduced price rather than as first quality. A crab you can actually put something in. Hand-built in our New Brunswick studio, this piece combines a functional dish with an absurd amount of sculptural detail. Each leg, claw and curve was shaped by hand, then finished with layers of glaze in deep blues, greens, rusts and copper. The result sits somewhere between a serving dish, a small sculpture, and an object that makes absolutely no attempt to behave like ordinary pottery. *STUDIO SECOND* This piece developed small cracks at several of the leg-to-body attachment points during the making/firing process. We don't consider this first-quality work, which is why we're offering it as a Studio Second at a reduced price. The affected areas are shown in the listing photographs.
