Join us at Illume on Summer Thursdays4:00–6:00 pm | $185 per session Session ICrafting the Short-Short Story: Flash FictionJune 4, 11, and 25 Flash stories are, by definition, self-contained narratives of fewer than 1,000 words, and often much shorter. These pieces can take many forms, from the traditional to work that may also be considered prose poetry. One famous story – often inaccurately attributed to Ernest Hemingway – is only six words long: “For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.” This piece perfectly exemplifies how powerful compressed writing can be! All of the workshops will be piloted by local writer Carolyn R. Russell. The author of four books, she is a multiple Best Microfiction winner as well as multiple Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net and Best Small Fictions nominee. Russell also writes for the screen, with a 2026 TV series currently in development. All participants’ work will receive individual feedback and editing. Instruction, guided in-class writing exercises, and group feedback will take place within a respectful and supportive environment. Join us for any or all of the sessions! Limited to seven writers per session.
