About Crataeva Crataeva (Crataeva nurvala), sometimes known as the Three-Leaved Caper, is a tropical tree native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia. Revered in traditional Ayurvedic practices for centuries, the tree is easily identified by its smooth grey bark, fragrant cream-coloured flowers, and glossy trifoliate leaves. The bark is most commonly used in herbal preparations and is typically extracted into tinctures or decoctions with a distinctly earthy, slightly pungent flavour. In India, Crataeva trees were often planted near temples and sacred sites, and in some regions the plant was associated with spiritual cleansing and renewal due to its hardy nature and ability to flourish in difficult conditions.
