This 4-class course offers practice time to learn how the rulers work and learn a different way of using your domestic machine. You will work with 7 different rulers and learn a variety of different quilt designs. Once you get started, the sky is the limit for the number of different designs you can create! Feb 25thMaterials:**- Your sewing machine (the larger the throat, the easier your projects will be)- Extension table for your machine (having a large, flat surface is essential for ruler work)- Basic sewing & cutting supplies (scissors, seam ripper, tweezers, rotary cutter/mat/ruler)- Your preferred fabric marking pensRecommended, but not required:- Quilting gloves- Glide mat- 12.5"x12.5" ruler for squaring blocks**Please note: these materials are required for all 4 classes. Individual class materials are listed below.Class 1 - Basics SamplerPractice how to measure and mark your quilts for precise ruler work. Learn the basics of ruler work with the Westalee Starter Set.Materials:- 5 quilt sandwiches measuring 21"x21" (please use a solid color; prints make it more difficult to see what you're doing)- Contrasting thread for quilting (any brand except Coats & Clark)Class 2 - Table RunnerBranch out from what you learned in the first class and create a stunning table runner. You will quilt 3 table runner sections using an assortment of rulers and designs, then learn how to put your sections together in a quilt-as-you-go project.Materials:- 3/4yd of 3 fabrics (recommend small/muted prints so your quilting will stand out)- Contrasting thread for quiltingBefore Class:- Assemble your table runner blocks and sandwich them (instructions available in-store)Class 3 - Placemat Ruler StorageThis nifty storage project uses ziploc bags so you can see what's in each pocket!Materials:- 3/4yd of 2 fabrics (recommend a small print and contrasting blender)- One piece each of muslin and batting measuring 17"x23"- Medium weight interfacing measuring 3"x15"- 1 1/4yd of webbing for straps and pockets- Ziploc freezer bags (they are sturdier than the standard ones: - [4] Gallon size - [4] Quart size- 2" of velcro for closureOPTIONAL: In-R-Foam or other bag stabilizer measuring 15"x20"Before Class: Piece and sandwich the carrier as shown in the instructions (available in-store)Class 4 - Corner-to-Corner BordersLearn how to manipulate the rulers to create matching borders and corners, and take your ruler quilting from good to great!Materials:- 6 quilt sandwiches measuring 12"x18"- A quilt that needs a border (crib or lap size)
