When was the last time you made something simply because it sounded fun? Somewhere along the way, many of us began believing that creativity had to be productive. That every painting should be frame-worthy, every idea should become a business, and every creative hour should lead to something useful. But what if creativity didn't have to accomplish anything? What if making something was enough? Creative Recess is a four-session creative gathering inspired by Prioritizing Play by Rachael Renae facilitated by Hillary Seibel and Erin Hawkins. Each session focuses on one of the book's four sections. Before we meet, you'll read that week's assigned section, then gather with the group for thoughtful discussion, reflection, and a playful creative exploration inspired by the book's themes. This isn't about becoming a better artist. It's about reconnecting with the joy of making, embracing curiosity, and remembering what it feels like to create just because you can. Whether you haven't picked up a paintbrush in years or creativity is already part of your life, you'll find a welcoming space to slow down, experiment, laugh a little, and give yourself permission to play. What to ExpectEach session includes: Thoughtful conversation inspired by the reading Gentle reflection prompts A hands-on creative exploration designed for curiosity, not perfection Encouragement, conversation, and community A simple "Play Invitation" to take with you into the week ahead No artistic experience is necessary. About Tanglewood Art Studios Tanglewood Art Studios is more than just a studio—it’s a creative haven where artists of all backgrounds can connect, grow, and thrive. Rooted in the belief that art flourishes in a supportive and inspiring space, Tanglewood offers a place designed to fuel creativity. Whether through workshops, exhibitions, or community events, we are committed to fostering collaboration, excellence, and inclusivity in the arts. About Hillary Seibel Hillary is a communications professional by day and a mixed media artist in her spare time. A self-described perfectionist, she spent years thinking art meant becoming good at painting, even though she had always been happiest cutting paper into shapes and seeing what emerged. Over time, she realized her creative voice wasn’t found in trying harder to make the kind of art she thought she should—it was found in letting go and embracing the kind of art that came playfully and naturally. About Erin HawkinsErin is an artist, muralist, and founder of Tanglewood Art Studios. She spends much of her time painting walls, but some of her favorite moments happen around a table covered in paper scraps, markers, and half-finished ideas. She believes creativity flourishes when the pressure to "get it right" disappears, and loves creating spaces where people can experiment, laugh, and rediscover the simple joy of making. Through her workshops and community-building, Erin hopes to remind people that creativity belongs to everyone.
