After maceration, an infusion of violet petals is introduced, giving the liqueur its distinctive floral dimension. As a finishing touch, honey and orange peel are added, rounding out the botanical complexity and contributing to its thick, rich mouthfeel — a step that separates Creme Yvette from simpler single-note violet or berry liqueurs.Tasting NotesAroma: The nose opens with a perfumed, candied quality reminiscent of violet drops and boiled sweets. Beneath that initial floral impression, layered aromas of mixed berry fruits — blackberry, raspberry, and currant — emerge with gentle sweetness.Taste: On entry, the palate is slightly syrupy and lush, with ripe berry flavors that recall raspberry pavlova — complete with a meringue-like sweetness. The mid-palate shifts toward violet blossom and a subtle hint of liquorice, while honey and orange peel add warmth and depth. The overall impression balances fruit-forward intensity with floral sophistication.Finish: The finish is lingering, with violet flavors asserting themselves more prominently than on the palate. Notes of vanilla, oriental fruits, and a persistent floral character carry the experience to a satisfying close. How to Drink Creme YvetteCreme Yvette drinks well chilled and served neat in a small cordial glass, where its layered berry and violet character can be appreciated without dilution. Its rich texture and complex flavor profile also make it an exceptional cocktail ingredient. Aviation: Creme Yvette adds deeper berry complexity than standard crème de violette, giving this classic gin cocktail a richer, more layered floral dimension. Blue Moon: The liqueur's violet and berry notes pair naturally with gin and fresh lemon juice in this pre-Prohibition-era recipe. Bramble: Substituting Creme Yvette for crème de mûre introduces a floral backbone that elevates the drink beyond a straightforward blackberry profile. Creme Yvette delivers a rich, layered profile of ripe mixed berries — blackberry, raspberry, currant, and wild strawberry — interwoven with violet blossom, honey sweetness, and a lingering hint of vanilla and liquorice. The mouthfeel is thick and slightly syrupy, finishing with prominent violet florals. How does Creme Yvette compare to Crème de Violette? Crème de Violette is a single-note violet liqueur, while Creme Yvette combines four berry fruits with violet petals, honey, and orange peel, resulting in a significantly more complex and fruit-forward flavor. Most cocktail recipes calling for one can substitute the other, but Creme Yvette contributes added berry depth and body.Is Creme Yvette good for cocktails? Creme Yvette is one of the most versatile floral liqueurs for cocktail use, working in classics like the Aviation, Blue Moon, and Bramble where its layered berry and violet character adds complexity that simpler violet liqueurs cannot match.Where is Creme Yvette made? Creme Yvette is produced by Charles Jacquin et Cie using berries and botanicals sourced from near Bordeaux, France. The fruit and botanical blend undergoes a vinimatic maceration process using a pneumatic press to extract maximum flavor. What foods pair well with Creme Yvette? Dark chocolate truffles complement the liqueur's berry intensity and violet florals. Fresh berry tarts or pavlova echo its fruit-forward profile. Aged blue cheese provides a savory contrast to its sweetness. Lavender shortbread cookies harmonize with its botanical notes. Crème brûlée works well alongside the vanilla undertones in the finish. What sizes does Creme Yvette come in? Creme Yvette is primarily available in the standard 750ml bottle format. Is Creme Yvette worth the price? Creme Yvette positions as a specialty liqueur in the mid-premium tier, priced modestly above basic crème de violette options. Its multi-fruit complexity, unique production method, and versatility across classic cocktails provide strong value for anyone seeking a liqueur that does more than deliver a single flavor note. Why Creme Yvette? What distinguishes Creme Yvette from the broader category of floral and berry liqueurs is the sheer density of its flavor construction. The vinimatic maceration process with pneumatic pressing extracts a depth of fruit character that standard maceration simply does not achieve. Where crème de violette relies on a single floral note, Creme Yvette builds from four distinct berry bases — blackberry, raspberry, currant, and wild strawberry — then layers in violet, honey, and orange peel for a result that is simultaneously fruity, floral, and subtly spiced. That multi-dimensional profile, recognized with a Silver medal at the 2010 New York International Spirits Competition, makes it a genuinely distinctive addition to any bar.
