The name Chandbali comprises two words-Chand which means “moon” and Bali meaning “earrings”, with the crescent moon shape as the main element of design. The Islamic crescent moon shape became a popular design with Persian artisans. The earrings were usually set with intricate crystals that were fringed with pearls.
