Croagh Patrick, is a place of pilgrimage in Ireland today. It is said that Saint Patrick himself spent forty days fasting and praying on the mountains summit. Many pilgrims today w ill make the trek barefoot as an act of penance. Traveling up to high places to meet God is a common theme throughout the bible and consequently throughout the history of the faithful of the church. Where faith and geology meet is a profound thing to contemplate. I love how carnal our theology is. I love that there are physical places we can travel to have an encounter with God. At the same time our interior landscape offers the same amount of wonder on a completely different scale. We can encounter God in the high and low places of our very lives.
