Cross Roads offers a thoughtful interpretation of identity as an ongoing process of choosing: how we care for the land, how we relate to one another, how we reconcile our histories , and how we imagine our future. Like each of us, Canada is continually arriving at new crossroads. Each decision shapes who we are and who we aspire to become. This compelling painting reminds us that our individual stories are inseparable from the rhythms of nature and the communities to which we belong. A landscape of the mind: one of choices, relationships, transformation and interconnectedness, Cross Roads reminds us that we can choose to make crossroads places of possibility, not conflict. Eliska invites us to pause, reflect and discover our own paths. Eliska is known for creating richly symbolic works that weave together mythology, ecology and personal reflection. Cross Roads exemplifies this recurring theme. Throughout her practice, she has explored the interconnectedness of all living things, drawing upon recurring motifs from both the natural world, mythology and cycles of renewal to ask how we find our place in the universe.
