In 1985, Alain Graillot was living in Paris and pursuing a careerin agricultural chemicals, when he completely upended his life, moved to the Rhône Valley and began farming grapes, forsaking the chemicals he had once sold and pioneering biodynamics in the Rhône subregion of Crozes-Hermitage. By the end of the 1990's, he had begun to make a name for himself, and in wines have gone on to become some of the most renowned in the region. Alain passed away in 2022, but his torch is now carried by his sons Maxime and Antoine. Their Crozes-Hermitage is 100% Syrah farmed from 30+ year old vines, whole-cluster fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete, and aged for 1 to 3 years in old, spent oak barrels. Driven and balanced, with aromas of plums, cherries, licorice, cedar and graphite, the wine punches far above its weight. 12.0% ABV
