Plant Profile If you've ever wanted a freshwater aquarium plant with a personality as unpredictable as the weather, Cryptocoryne Florida Sunset is ready for the spotlight in your planted tank. A hybrid variant of Cryptocoryne wendtii, this colorful midground species refuses to settle for just one look: each leaf displays a shifting gradient of emerald green, warm gold, and subtle pastel pinks depending on your tank's lighting and nutrient levels. As with all crypt plants, this species can be sensitive to sudden parameter shifts and strongly objects to being relocated once planted. Because it is a slow grower, planting in groups is ideal when filling out midground zones. Key Features & Benefits Shifting foliage gradients of green, gold, and pink make every rosette unique in your aquascape. Adaptable nature makes it a stress-free choice for low-tech tanks once the root system establishes. Compact midground growth provides dense structural coverage without overtaking neighboring plants. Can be grown emersed in high-humidity setups, where mature plants may produce flowering spathes. Care & Planting Instructions Prep the plant by removing it from the pot and clearing all rockwool from the roots. Use fine-tip pinsettes to push roots deep into quality aquarium soil, as Crypt species are heavy root feeders. Insert root tab fertilizers if using an inert substrate like sand or gravel. Inject pressurized CO2 for faster growth, though not required for long-term health. Choose a permanent spot from day one; moving an established plant will likely trigger leaf loss. Crypt species can be grown emersed in high-humidity setups or submerged in aquariums. Propagate by splitting the rhizome or replanting new growth shoots. Don't discard the plant if leaves dissolve early on; see our guide to managing Cryptocoryne melt to help your plant recover smoothly. How do I bring out the pink and gold colors in Cryptocoryne Florida Sunset? Providing moderate aquarium lighting and rich iron-focused root tab supplementation encourages the foliage to shift from standard green to vibrant gold and soft pastel pink tones. 2. How should I plant Cryptocoryne Florida Sunset for the best visual impact? Because it grows at a slow-to-moderate pace, planting 2–3 pots in a tight cluster in your midground creates a fuller, multi-colored bush effect faster than planting a single isolated rosette. 3. How do I help my Cryptocoryne Florida Sunset recover if it melts after planting? Crypt melt is a standard reaction when shifting water conditions cause old leaves to dissolve so the plant can grow new foliage adapted to your aquarium. Trim away decaying tissue, maintain stable water conditions, and do not disturb the subterranean root mass. For complete recovery steps, check out our guide to managing Cryptocoryne melt.
