Ctenanthe oppenheimianaCtenanthe oppenheimiana develops long lance-shaped leaves patterned with alternating bands of deep green and pale silver-green. Broad stripes branch outward from the midrib, while the reverse carries a rich purple-red tone. The firm smooth blades give a large plant a substantial, almost leathery texture.Each leaf rises as a tight roll that flashes its burgundy underside before opening to the striped upper surface. The blades can shift between flatter daytime positions and a more upright evening posture, repeatedly revealing both colour faces. Successive shoots build a tall leafy specimen that can approach 90 cm indoors, with later leaves gaining considerable length and width. Movement repeatedly changes which colour face is visible: silver and green dominate when the leaves lie flatter, and lifted foliage exposes deep purple beneath.
