Silphium perfoliatum This tall behemoth stands at 6 feet and forms medium-sized yellow flowers. Its leaves form opposite each other and clasp the stem, forming a small bowl that co llects water, giving it its name. Birds drink from the pooled water and will eat the seeds in the fall.
