Curio repens is part of the Asteraceae family (the Daisy family) and its native range is Cape Province. It is a small succulent shrub with cylindrical leaves born on prostrate stems. It typically grows in clusters and can be found on sandstone cliffs, rooting in crevices and on rock ledges. Leaves are powdery blue in colour and highly succulent, becoming somewhat rounded when turgid, elliptic to linear-elliptic. Genus name comes from the Latin cūriōsus, meaning ‘careful’ or ‘inquisitive’. Specific epithet means ‘creeping’, possibly pertaining to its creeping growth habit. Pot: ø 5.5cm. Height: Approximately 7cm from base of pot. Light: Position this plant in a very bright indirectly lit spot, this plant can also tolerate some direct sunlight. Water: Allow the potting mix to dry out completely in between waterings; Potting mix: A well draining mix composed of perlite, grit and horticultural sand and a small amount of coco coir. Fertilising: Feed every few waterings during the growing season. You can dilute fertiliser to half the recommended amount but never add more. Temperature: 18-30˚C. Humidity: Average humidity; if the humidity is particularly high, good ventilation is key to prevent mildew and fungal disease. Curio repens is toxic if ingested, keep out of reach of pets and children.
