Let’s start with the fabric—each backdrop is a one-of-a-kind relic, thoughtfully sourced for its rich history and distinct character. These textiles are meticulously quilted and embroidered from feed bags that have traveled through nearly a century of everyday life. Their surfaces bear the evocative patina of age—wear, repairs, and mends serve as silent testimonies of decades of authentic use, adding depth, authenticity, and a sense of narrative to each piece. The stitches that mend these fabrics are themselves steeped in history, spanning over fifty years, weaving a silent yet powerful story of resilience. To complement these historic textiles, I incorporate intricate embroidery featuring Western motifs and detailed pick stitching, elevating both texture and storytelling potential within each artwork. This piece has sold but we can create a custom version of this for you. We have an assortment of vintage fabrics to choose from as a background. In approaching design, I treat every piece as a portrait—aiming to capture the spirit and character with deliberate precision. Currently, I am working on a commanding horse and a striking new bull—both destined to be stunning once completed. Each stitch is carefully placed, guided by digital drafting tools to ensure exactness. Threads are thoughtfully selected for each phase, with embroidery that can involve up to a million stitches—requiring approximately 30 hours per portrait. The finished work is then mounted in relief from its background, creating a dynamic, textured composition that is gracefully encased within a refined acrylic frame. And yes, we welcome commissions.
