Die-struck, not printed Our custom challenge coins are struck from zinc alloy at 3.5mm thick, double-sided, with soft enamel color fill and 3D engraving. Striking presses the design into the metal under pressure, which is what gives a coin crisp relief and real weight in the hand. A printed or cast coin skips that step, and you can feel the difference the moment you pick one up. After striking, the coin is plated and the recessed areas are filled by hand with enamel, then the raised metal is polished back so it catches light against the color. It is a slower process than printing. It is also the reason a good coin still looks right after twenty years in a shadow box. Cutting a die is a genuine cost and most shops bill it separately — a line item that shows up after the quote and has to be explained to purchasing. We would rather absorb it than surprise a department at invoice time. The per-coin price is the price; shipping is the only thing added. Artwork and proofs Send your artwork, or clear photographs of an existing coin or patch, and we build the production file from there. You get a digital proof before anything is cut, and nothing goes into production until you approve it. If the proof is not right, we revise it.
