These sample holders can be used for a wide variety of materials where the thickness of the sample varies. Common applications: Clays deposited on glass slides Membrane filters on rigid backers Solid samples of varying thicknesses Slurry deposition samples on glass or zero background plates The design of these holders allows for the surface of the sample to be placed precisely in the plane of diffraction by placing a piece of flat plate, usually glass, across the surface and inserting the spring backer and sample from the rear. The included spring backer is then pushed toward the glass until any extra space is taken up. Maximum sample thickness is approximately 2mm, but using a thinner spring backer can easily increase the clearance to 4mm. Show more
