This rug was designed by Khadija and her sister Latifa, both members of the Anzal weaving association. It will be handwoven by the women of Anzal, a collective founded in 2007 and sustained by the tradition of passing down weaving techniques from one generation to the next. Zanafi rugs are defined by their tight flatwoven bases, striped patterns, and earth-toned palettes. These pieces reflect the semi-nomadic lifestyle and the rugged, desert-meets-mountain landscape of the region. Woven by hand using a meticulous system of counting, the technique demands exceptional skill and focus—each row is carefully constructed with precision. Zanafi rugs are also known for their distinctive side tassels, though they can be woven without them upon request. Understated yet highly detailed, these rugs are a testament to the precision and artistry of Amazigh weaving traditions.
