Every now and then, we come across a wine that completely changes our expectations. This is one of them. When we first tasted this Danish white wine (Solaris grape), we knew we had to bring back the few bottles we could get our hands on. Fresh, vibrant and remarkably precise, it is a wine that challenges preconceptions about what Danish viticulture is capable of. Sønderstrand Vin is, first and foremost, a family estate, born from dreams, patience, and hard work. The vineyard is run by Anna, Beinta, and Jens, with plenty of help from family and close friends. Located just south of the town of Kalundborg, only 200 metres from the coast, the vineyard benefits from a growing season that is typically dry, mild, and breezy. The clay-rich soils provide an excellent foundation for the vines. All work in the vineyard is carried out with great respect for the vines and the surrounding environment. The Wine Year: 2024 Grape: 100% Solaris Vinification: Spontaneously fermented, unfiltered, and made without added sulphites. Ageing: 8 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks. Alcohol: 12% vol. Tasting Notes A vibrant and expressive white with citrus, ripe orchard fruit and delicate floral notes, balanced by refreshing acidity, a gentle lees-driven texture and a long, mineral finish. Food Pairing Pairs beautifully with oysters, seafood, grilled fish, fresh salads, soft cheeses and light summer dishes.
