The raised martingale prevents the horse from putting its head up by indirect action on the horse's mouth through the reins. The bib gives a fixed corridor for the horse to stay in ; it gives the horse a guide line. The bib is also made for horses that have a tendency of catching and biting the classic martingale straps whilst being ridden, as here, the horse is unable to catch the bib. This martingale can be adjusted with a number of holes on the chest strap.
