Antonio has been making lions since he was a child — since the nights in Africa when he half-believed one might walk up to the house. It keeps showing up in the work. This one sits somewhere between protection and foolishness, which is about right: lions sleep more than they hunt, they like to be looked at, they carry a kind of borrowed authority.
