This biological control is a virus that infects and kills larvae of the codling moth (Cydia pomonella granulovirus). This virus is very host specific, and does not harm any beneficial insects, or any other animals. CYD-X must be eaten by the larvae to be effective so complete spray coverage is very important. The virus is encapsulated in an occlusion body, which provides some protection from degradation.
