Cyphostemma juttaeCyphostemma juttae is a succulent tree with a thick bottle-shaped trunk and stout branching growth. The swollen base stores water and develops a pale textured surface as it ages. Grey-green leaves divide into broad toothed leaflets, creating a coarse seasonal canopy above the heavy trunk.A young plant carries a modest caudex beneath a few shoots. Over many years, the base can become exceptionally broad, with thick irregular contours. The upper branches thicken at the same slow pace.Leaves may be shed during rest and return with active growth, repeatedly changing the plant from an exposed framework of trunk and branches to a leafy crown. Old specimens can also produce small flower clusters followed by colourful berries. Their massive pale base remains the permanent feature through every seasonal change.
