This kit represents the German Schwerer Plattformwagen Typ SSy (SSyms), an 80-tonne capacity heavy flatcar used extensively by the Deutsche Reichsbahn to move tanks, self-propelled guns and other heavy military equipment by rail during the Second World War. Wagons of this type were the standard means of transporting Tiger, Panther and other heavy armour between factories, depots and the front.Originally tooled by Dragon in the late 1990s, the kit reproduces the flatcar's distinctive low-loading deck, multi-axle bogies, end platforms and separate loading ramps and chocks in fine, crisply moulded styrene detail, giving builders an accurate rail-transport base rather than a fighting vehicle.Because it carries no armament of its own, this kit is designed as a diorama and display accessory - built alone as a static rail exhibit, or loaded with one of Dragon's own 1/35 tank kits to recreate a wartime rail-transport scene, complete with loading ramps and chocking blocks.An essential piece for any modeller building a railway-transport or depot diorama, and a natural companion to Dragon's Tiger I, Panther and other heavy German armour kits.
