Operation Ochsenkopf was a German offensive launched in the Tunisian campaign in February–March 1943, in which early-production Tiger I heavy tanks of schwere Panzer-Abteilung 501 were committed in an attempt to break through Allied lines. These early Tigers, among the first examples of the type to see combat, demonstrated both the tank's formidable firepower and armour and the mechanical teething problems typical of the type's early service life.
