The M21 Mortar Motor Carriage adapted the longer M3 half-track chassis to carry the 81mm M1 mortar facing to the rear, allowing the full crew to serve the weapon from within the vehicle's enlarged fighting compartment without dismounting. Standardised in 1943, the M21 saw extensive service with US armoured and mechanised cavalry units in the North-West Europe campaign, providing fast, mobile indirect fire support that could reposition quickly with advancing armoured columns. Dragon's kit reproduces the M3-based hull with its distinctive rear stowage racks, mortar baseplate mount and the raised rear deck needed to accommodate the rearward-firing weapon, using slide-mould technology for the riveted hull panels and the half-track's front axle and rear bogie suspension. The kit includes the 81mm mortar assembly, ready to be posed either stowed or set up for firing. As the title notes, the kit includes a driver figure, finished in period US crew dress, to bring the vehicle to life without requiring a separate figure purchase, along with individual track links and a decal sheet for US markings. A strong complement to the M4 Mortar Carrier and other US half-track kits in the range, ideal for building a complete mechanised support column or a fire-support vignette.
