This kit depicts an early Tiger I heavy tank of schwere Panzer-Abteilung 502, the first unit to take the Tiger into combat, deployed near Leningrad from August 1942 in the marshy, forested terrain that hampered the type's debut. Initial Production Tigers are distinguished by cylindrical smoke dischargers mounted on each side of the turret, an "S"-mine anti-personnel discharger on the hull roof, a turret with rounded mantlet cheeks, and the vehicle's original steel-rimmed road wheel arrangement before the later interleaved wheel change. Dragon renders these early-production details with precision, using slide-mould parts to capture the distinctive early turret shape, hull stowage, and running gear, along with workable individual track links for an accurate sag and wrap around the drive sprockets and idlers.
