The name "daisy" applies to a handful of species within the Asteraceae family of plants. The common daisy has spoon-shaped leaves forming a rosette at the base of the plant, close to the ground. A single stem carries the flower head - look closely to find a composite of tiny flowers making up the yellow center ('disc florets') surrounded by white 'ray florets' (which look like petals).
