ProblemIn addition to dealing with extreme poverty, Dalit students also face serious discrimination from a society that tells them that regardless of their efforts in the classroom or the workplace, because they are Dalits, they will never be the equal of their non-Dalit friends. In order to close the gap, we provide our students with three things: 1) more time in school; 2) specific achievement goals for each year, month and week; and 3) a conscious effort to guide their behavior and values.
