Damascenone Total is the same molecule and same CAS family as Damascenone; the only difference that they differ in purity and cost. Damascenone pure is minimum ninety-nine percent beta-damascenone: cleaner, marginally more honeyed, and more efficient drop for drop. Damascenone total is minimum ninety-three percent, with the remainder being less powerful or non-odorous isomers of the same compound. In practice, the two smell very close and can be used interchangeably. The pure version gives you slightly more impact per unit weight, which matters when you are working near your rose ketone ceiling. The total version is less expensive, making it the practical choice for most formulation work. If you are building a fine fragrance where every fraction of a percent counts, reach for the pure. For everything else, the total delivers the same magnificent rose-plum radiance at a friendlier price.
