Damar resin, also known as cat-eye resin, comes from a large semi-deciduous tree, which is an important hardwood timber species as well. It is quite invasive and takes over any area in which it grows. The tree is worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists in India. Damar lifts the spirit and is said to bring light to the darkness of the soul. Dammar resin is particularly useful to combat sadness, depression and melancholy and has a light airy sweet smell. The scent is very similar to the expensive Gum Mastic and is frequently used instead of Mastic. The elemental correspondence is air and the planetary attribute is Mercury. Damar resin produces a lot of smoke on the charcoal and really focuses other herbs in the blend. Damar blends well with benzoin, borneol camphor, copal, elemi, frankincense, guggul, lemongrass, myrrh, opoponax, rose, and rosemary.
