I am deeply inspired by the ocean and all its moods, and rock forms, either coastal or those found in desert landscapes. I am an avid beach walker and have also walked in the centr al desert of Australia, always looking and observing forms and textures. The primordial textures and surfaces of my work emerge from research and play with a range of aggregates and ash glazes. I use light and dark clays to create subtle variations in palette and tone. Nature’s raw beauty is a constant theme running through my ceramic art. My works are both sculptural and functional bringing art into life. This sculptural form is hand coiled then sprayed with my signature ash glaze which I make with the ash from my fireplace at home. The spraying of the glaze deliberately mimics the effect achieved by wood-firing, thereby enhancing the shape and movement of my sculptures.
