A tall stone carving of a dancing bear. StoneApprox. 11 x 20 x 31 cmRegistration no. 1271937 Kooyoo Peter started carving seriously at age 18 or 19, although he was 13 or 14 when h e first tried carving a seal. He studied jewelry making and enjoyed it, but he did not complete his studies. He learned to carve from his late brother Joanasie, who would ask Kooyoo to carve beside him. Joanasie taught Kooyoo how to use the axe and file and which part of the stone to remove first. He also told him that he had potential. Their father, Ejetsiaq Peter, is a renowned Cape Dorset artist. Kooyoo’s favourite subjects for carving are people moving in action. Show more
