Daniel Bray House 1 Brown St. Salem, Massachusetts ca. 1766 Recently restored on the exterior to its original 1806 appearance, this modest house tells the story of gentrification and the displacement of Salem's working class in the early 19th century. Surrounded by the homes of merchants and sea captains, Bray worked in the maritime world, probably as a rigger, as listed on his father's will. The house actually built in 1766 by Daniel Bray's father, Nathaniel. In 1806 Daniel Bray inherited the house and renovated it to the latest taste and it became elegant on the outside. "Salem has a uniquely rich architectural heritage. Every major American architectural style is represented within its borders."Now you can tour PEM's historic homes from your own home! The museum's physical campus includes three city blocks and several off-site properties. We have collaborated with Cats Meow Village to recreate the museum's historic houses in their signature style.
