The tatami surface is made from natural igusa (rush grass) grown by farmers in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. Inside the natural igusa, a spongy substance is enclosed within the outer skin. This feature allows the tatami to absorb humidity in summer and release it in winter, providing a moisture-regulating effect.The igusa has an air purifying function, capable of adsorbing harmful substances such as nitrogen dioxide and formaldehyde while imbuing your space with the subtle fragrance of natural grass. However, as a plant-based product, it is prone to sun fading and surface scratches. There's also a possibility of mites or mold occurrence. The core material uses upcycled Japanese tea leaves, making this product environmentally friendly. The catechins in the tea leaves and their deodorizing effects create a refreshing atmosphere in your room. As the igusa is a natural material, inspections may be required in certain countries or regions.
