"Nanakorobi Yaoki" (七転八起) translated as "seven times down, eight times up" is one of the core principles of the legendary martial artist turned buddhist monk Bodhidharma.Daruma as he is affectionally called, was a 5th century warrior who traveled to China teaching meditation, and is credited with developing both Zen Buddhism and the core concepts of fighting that became the Shaolin tradition of kung fu.
