Daruma Sasawashi is made from Kumasasa, a variety of bamboo that grows in high elevations of 1,000 meters above sea level. As Kumasasa has antibacterial and deodorization propertie s, as well as protection against UV rays, Sasawashi is particularly well-suited for making summer accessories like a crochet hat or clutch. It has also been treated with water-proofing to help keep the dirt away (this water-proofing will gradually fade over time).
