Smith is a third-generation im migrant of Ashkenazic descent who lives in Lenapehoking (Brooklyn, NY). He holds an MFA from Bard College, and was awarded a NYSCA/NYFA fellowship, and residencies with Apex Art, Socrates Sculpture Park, Millay Arts, Marble House Project, Franconia Sculpture Park, Textile Arts Center, Alfred University, and BOFFO. Smith’s work has been exhibited at Museum Rijswijk, Johannes Vogt Gallery, Asia Song Society, and Essex Flowers, with solo shows at Millersville University, SUNY Old Westbury, Halsey McKay, Geary, and Planthouse.
