This slightly abstract David Bowie painting captures the mystery, reinvention and unmistakable presence of one of Britain’s most influential musicians. This slightly abstract portrait captures some of that mystery and transformation. Expressive brushwork, layered colour and fractured details allow Bowie’s face to emerge through the marks, creating something more distinctive than a conventional celebrity portrait. I created the original artwork on my iPad, digitally combining different painting techniques before printing it onto a wood panel. I then worked back into the image by hand, adding real paint, drips and physical textures. The finished piece sits somewhere between a digital portrait and a traditional mixed-media painting. Its rich colours, visible brush marks and hand-applied details give the surface genuine depth, making every copy slightly different.
