ceramic slab, mirror, 170m retiredclimbing rope, soft goods and hardware.32" x 36" x 98" davidbruce.studio@davidbrucestudio Ground Anchor, 06.13.2026.001 upholds a strong foundationof traditional clay techniques while questioning theboundaries of what is accepted as ceramic, sculpture and art.The core component, a large stratified ceramic slab, wascreated using a palette of recycled and processed clays;leftover materials from other unfired clay works. It has beencarefully constructed through a slow process of layering anddrying crushed and liquified clays; finally finished with astrategically placed selection of larger "boulders" that mimicthe surface of a square parcel of barren land, to scale, asboulder-field. The mass itself has been inverted andsubsequently implicated as a "ground anchor" in the broadercontext of the parent work, conceptually and physically. Thesystem you see here has been isolated, removed andtransposed from its parent apparatus; installed as an ongoingbody of work at the artist’s home studio.
