That soft,haunting tone he's got just cuts through. He takes songs by Dylan, Springsteen, Randy Newman, even Nick Drake, and makes 'em feel like his own. No flashyproduction here, just raw vocals and simple arrangements. Piano, acoustic guitar, maybe a touch of slide. Feels intimate, like you're standing in a small roomwhile he sings. I really liked "Streets of Philadelphia." Man, that one hits different. Bruce's original is powerful, but Gray slows it down, adds this quiet ache.Same with "To Ramona"-the rhythm's there, but it's more introspective. And "I Think It's Going to Rain Today"? Just piano and voice. Minimal, but damn, theemotion's sky-high. Might even top Newman's version for sheer melancholy. But not all tracks land perfectly. Some of the transitions feel rough.
