With antique dealer Tom Parr he opened Hicks and Parr (1956-9) and in 1959 his own shop David Hicks Ltd, opened on Lowndes Street, Knightsbridge. Hicks's adventurous colour combinations and furniture arrangements became associated with the 'Swinging Sixties' scene.
