This publication is intended to teach the student how to inspect residential wood decks and balconies. It does not address the inspection of decks and balconies that are constructed with plastic, composites, or any other material other than solid-sawn lumber. This guide focuses on single-level residential and commercial wood decks. The recommendations found within this publication exceed the requirements of both InterNACHI's Standards of Practice for Performing a General Home Inspection and the International Standards of Practice for Inspecting Commercial Properties.
