DECOYs are a series of artworks by artist Layla Claudia Smith. The series seek to examine pathologies within female identity when filtered through a digital lens. Each DECOY piece combines visuals methodically extracted from the social media algorithms of her female peers, becoming a semi-abstract mosaic. This series is intended to be a succession of non-representational female portraits, depicting the individuals not as they appear, but as their social media algorithms understands them. Translated to animal hides, the viewer is reminded of the discrepancy between biological reality and data-driven identity profiling. Show more
