Once again, Deep Purple has teamed up with Bob Ezrin. Together, they have made an album that draws on the band's classic sound without falling into nostalgia. Musically, 'SPLAT!' i s one of the hardest and heaviest Deep Purple albums in many years - recorded in true hard rock tradition, with the band playing together in the studio. At the center of the record is a conceptual idea from Ian Gillan: 'SPLAT!' deals with the end of humanity, or perhaps Deep Purple, not in any crude apocalyptic sense but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence. 1.
