Part of the artist's acclaimed exhibition series at Royal Cornwall Museum (now Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery). 'Deep Time' explores the timeless appeal of Bodmin Moor, from it's Neolithic settlers to contemporary leisure interests. Drawing on the ever-present symbolism of circles and centred around the natural rock formations, Deep Time reminds us that we are but fleeting visitors to this ancient land. This is an original mixed media painting - charcoal, hand made natural earth pigment paints and inks, acrylic paint and cyanotype on canvas. The natural materials for the paint have been gathered from the local area and further afield, processed by hand and left in a fairly coarse state to add texture. Paintings containing these natural materials literally have the land that inspired them in the artwork, bringing a real sense of the landscape into the work. They inform the choice of colour palette to ensure an authentic feel and connection to the subject.
