Ori Marani works in Lamiskana, in the Racha-Lechkhumi region of western Georgia, farming indigenous varieties that have been grown here for millennia. Shavkapito is one of Georgia's rarest and most compelling red varieties — nearly extinct a generation ago, now being revived by a small number of committed producers who recognise its potential. It produces wines of medium body, bright acidity, and a distinctive character: dark cherry and pomegranate fruit, earthy, spiced notes, and a freshness that makes it unusually versatile at the table.
