Der Kämpfer - The Fighter Created in 1938 for the Round Hall of Albert Speer’s Neue Reichskanzlei in Berlin, Arno Breker's Der Kämpfer ("The Fighter") was a monumental bronze relief depicting a heroic warrior, a key embodiment of Nazi-era aesthetic ideals. The sculpture portrays a muscular, idealized male figure in a dramatic "en garde" position, holding a sword by the blade, embodying themes of readiness and sacrifice. Like many of Breker's works, it utilized neoclassical styling to convey power, tension, and a "Germanic" athletic physique. As with several works from this period, the original is presumed lost or destroyed during the final years of the Second World War, with no confirmed surviving physical cast. What remains today exists only through limited archival imagery, preserving a fragment of an otherwise largely inaccessible body of work.
