INDICATIONS An aid in the treatment and the prevention of recurrence of superficial dermatitis associated with Staphylococcus intermedius infections in dogs. Antibiotic therapy is recommended for the initial control of infection or where deep pyodermas exist. Staphylococcus intermedius and gram negative bacteria Non-toxic, non-irritating, with up to 14 days residual activity when used with Dermcare Pyohex Medicated Shampoo ACTIONS RESIDUAL ACTION = Less frequent washes = increased owner compliance. The Chlorhexidine in PYOHEX CONDITIONER works by binding to hair to eliminate bacteria in situ. Chlorhexidine kills bacteria by disrupting the cell membrane and precipitating the cell contents. PYOHEX CONDITIONER binds strongly to the skin and hair, resulting in up to 14 days residual action. As Chlorhexidine is poorly absorbed through the skin, PYOHEX CONDITIONER is completely safe when used as directed. PYOHEX CONDITIONER is a leave-on medicated, coat conditioning lotion designed to be used in conjunction with Dermcare Pyohex Medicated Shampoo or other appropriate product, as recommended by your Veterinarian. PYOHEX CONDITIONER is pH neutral, specifically designed for canine skin. DIRECTIONS FOR USE First shampoo with an appropriate antibacterial shampoo, such as Pyohex Medicated Shampoo, as recommended by your veterinarian. Apply to damp coat by placing a small amount into the palm of your hand spread evenly over both hands, then massage gently into coat over entire body. Use approximately 1 mL per kilogram of body weight for the dog. Do not rinse after application. EFFICACY The target pathogen Staphylococcus intermedius is susceptible to chlorhexidine itself if incorporated in a shampoo or lotion. Chlorhexidine in topical preparations is optimized for effect at a 3 % concentration. Chlorhexidine if used in a shampoo has a 4-day residual activity but if used in a lotion after the shampoo it has an antiseptic action of up to 2 weeks. Pyohex lotion is well tolerated on the dog even if used in young dogs and for many months to years.
