MARPAT, a short for "Marine pattern," is a versatile camouflage pattern that was developed in 2001 for the United States Marine Corps. It was officially introduced into service between late 2002 and early 2005 as part of the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform (MCCUU), replacing the older Camouflage Utility Uniform. This innovative pattern draws its inspiration and concept from the Canadian CADPAT pattern. At its core, the MARPAT pattern is comprised of small, rectangular pixels of various colors. The idea behind this design is to provide a significantly more effective camouflage compared to traditional uniform patterns. MARPAT excels because it closely replicates the dappled textures and irregular boundaries found in natural environments. Due to its pixelated appearance, it is often referred to as the "digital pattern" or "digi-cammies."
